about

This is a compilation of live tracks recorded at various shows at the Belmont bar in Hamtramck, MI by Dead Letters between may-june of 2007. Also featured are two 2008 rehearsal recordings from after Brandon's departure.

Dead Letters were ferocious live. Everything was louder than everything else. We were all younger, dumber, braver. It was the Bush years, and that made us all a little angrier, crazier. The histrionics and melodrama of the band inevitably made it both a force to be reckoned with and a ticking time bomb to self-distruct.

The band was in so many ways the year zero for the trajectory each of us has gone down since. Roy's existential crisis in the mid-period of the band led him across the country, back to play with the Dead Letters for a bit, and inevitably down a deeply personal spiritual path. Nick met his wife near the end point of this group, and carried on with Kyle to form the highly acclaimed Black Lodge. Brandon and Greg eventually formed Superbomb. The heavy partying death trip Kyle was on for years sort of started in Dead Letters, and at its end, McBee finds himself revitalized and reborn, fronting several groups, one, Factory Girls reunites him with Dead Letter Office co-owner and fellow dead letters alum, Brandon.

Its rough stuff. Unpolished. But, there was a magic to those days. I speak for all of us when I say, warts and all, I'm proud of the Angst, Blood, and Noise we spilled across stages for a few crucial years...

Best,
KM
